M/V Shibumi in Bell Harbor Marina
Creating Memories in Northwest Cruising
Shibumi is taking the next chapter of her life with some great new owners. The new owners are very experienced and will care for her in a manner that make us proud. We were proud to be her caretaker for many years. We were the second owners and now the vessel that began as Fog Cutter and became Shibumi will join the third owners as MV Hobbit.
For nearly 14 years M/V Shibumi helped people create memories through the charter experience. Here are some links to help you see how we left her in October of 2017: Deck Plans, Specifications, Shibumi Owners Notes, interior photos, exterior photos. Shibumi treated her guests well and they returned the favor. Most charter guests begin their time in Anacortes but we had many one-way trips to or from Desolation Sound, or the Broughton’s. Here was the listing Shibumi Listing 2017
Here is a list of projects undertaken over the years. Projects

Definition of SHIBUMI as excerpted from “Shibumi” by Trevanian:
“SHIBUMI has to do with great refinement underlying commonplace appearances. It is a statement so correct that it does not have to be bold, so poignant it does not have to be pretty, so true it does not have to be real. SHIBUMI is understanding, rather than knowledge. Eloquent silence. In demeanor, it is modesty without prudence. In art, where the spirit of SHIBUMI takes the form of SABI, it is elegant simplicity, articulate brevity. In philosophy, where SHIBUMI emerges as WABI, it is spiritual tranquility that is not passive; it is being without the angst of becoming. And in the personality of a man, it is…authority without domination. One does not achieve SHIBUMI, one…discovers it. And only a few men of infinite refinement ever do that. One must pass through knowledge and arrive at simplicity to arrive at SHIBUMI.”
We commonly referred to the meaning as “understated elegance or a way of life”. We felt she chose the name for herself in part because of her sea keeping capabilities and her sea kindliness.
We have been told by some of our guests after spending time on SHIBUMI that they begin to understand the definition further.
