About
Bake’s Marine Consulting began in the early 90’s as a way to help people manage their boats so they would enjoy their time out on the water more. My philosophy was simple; a boat (or yacht) is like a business. It may only have one customer but managed correctly it will be efficient and run smoothly. Not everyone wants a full time captain. I try to provide the services of a full time captain to my clients on a part time basis.
I believe in working with people who are “geeks” to their profession. I am a self professed boat geek. I have been working on boats of all kinds for more than 50 years. I enjoy the challenge of solving unusual problems and designing systems that are new and efficient.
In 2017 we made a major change to the “vessel in our life”. Since 2004 we have managed Bill & Fred’s Excellent Adventures LLC (initially with Fred as our partner). Shibumi was the charter vessel and she performed her service at the top of the game. The new vessel is named Roxia. She is a Nordhavn 62 which we found in Mackay Australia. We have always used the line “Creating Memories in Northwest Cruising”. We may have to change that tag line for our guests to “Creating Memories in Cruising” until Roxia is back in the Northwest. How long will this take? We hope to be back in the PNW in late 2018. Stay Tuned!
Well…It happened. We spent September 2017 to February 2018 in Northeast Australia. We cruised inside the Great Barrier Reef in the Whitsundays, the Curtis Coast and down the Gold Coast to Brisbane. We did a haul out and small refit in Bundaberg along the way. We then shipped Roxia to Ensenada Mexico (many reasons for not cruising this time) and cruised the Sea of Cortez during March and April of 2018. After three months cruising the west coast we arrived Victoria, BC in August 2018. We are headed to Alaska and then by August or September of 2019 we will arrive in Everett to start the long list of projects to get Roxia back in shape after two years of cruising.
It was great to meet you both! I hope you enjoyed your stay in Bandon. Sorry the weather wasn’t better. Safe travels and happy sailing in your vessel. If you ever come back this way again we would be happy to host.
And we are now neighbors! Small world, congrats!
